Fashion is one of the most unstable phenomena in today’s world. Trends come and go as fast as summer and winter, sometimes even more often, and most of us just can’t keep up with them. Colors and patterns fight every season for the throne of popularity, and items such as shoes, bags and clothing are changing their shape and cut according to the hottest new designer and his imagination. Even though most of the items come, make a big boom and then end up in the furthest depths of our closets, some general trends tend to stick around for a longer period of time.
Some of the trends that will always be fashionable such as hippie chic, heroin chic, boho chic, glamour chic, rock-girl chic, and even hipster chic are in a way the foundations on which the passing trends are eventually built upon. Their existence is guaranteed in years to come. The looks might not be portrayed in the exact same way each time they come back to style, but the idea will definitely stay the same.
These days it looks like there is a new trend emerging on the streets, its name is quite goofy and barely compatible with the fashion industry, but we must say that the style itself is very fashionable. The main culprit responsible for this trend being on everybody’s tongue at the moment is Alessandro Michele who brought out the inner geeks in his models during the Gucci show. Yes, this new and fresh style is called geek chic. The pieces used to assemble it are not so unfamiliar, they have all been trendy for the past few seasons, but the way you combine them is clearly unusual. Large vintage style plastic glasses, snoopy looking knitted beanies, pussy bow neck ties, under the knee coats and skirts, thick jumpers and of course flat granny shoes everywhere. Anyone reading the ingredients to this geek style recipe would say that the outcome could look anything but sexy, and they would be wrong. The new age geeks are very sensual and very confident, nothing like the dopey looking Steve Urkel or Little Miss Sunshine.
The best part of this upcoming new trend is the fact that a lot of people have gone through the torment of being bullied in high school for wearing dorky and unfitted clothes, and now the joke is on all those bullies because geeks are finally in the circle of cool kids! That’s why we are really rooting for this phenomenon to become mainstream, because it is really fun, refreshing, and simply fair, plus there is a large possibility of reusing old and forgotten clothes. It’s a win-win situation for everyone except your grandparents whose closet you are probably going to ransack.
